How To Impress Your Boss & Stop Feeling Undervalued At Work
If your manager gave you a review today, what would they say?
At work, your manager has the biggest influence on your ability to get promoted and do the kinds of work you want to do. But they won’t know how amazing you are if they never see it.
If you’re tired of feeling like your boss has no idea what you do all day, you can fix that.
And the good news is, you only need one thing: a one-on-one meeting. You actually need very little for a powerful, productive 1:1 meeting.
All you need is 20 minutes and the Ink+Volt 1:1 Pad.
Keep reading for the 3-step strategy that will change the game for your career.
3 Steps To Start Impressing Your Boss Every Week
Here's how to do it:
1. Email your boss asking for a 1:1 meeting.
If you’re doing inconsistent 1:1 meetings with your boss, send them a message proposing a recurring meeting schedule. Once a week or every other week is most effective.
If you’re not doing 1:1 meetings at all, here is a free template you can use:
Hi ____,
I'd like to start doing weekly one-on-one meetings with you so that we can regularly sync up about team goals and my sure I'm working on the most important things every day.
I would also love to use this time to get feedback on my work so I can continue to grow my skills.
I'll propose a few times below. Let me know what works best for you and I will add it to our calendars!
Thanks!
2. Stick to the schedule
Don’t skip your 1:1 meetings, even when you’re really busy. Connecting with your manager, for the sake of your positive relationship with them and for the sake of doing the best work possible, is essential.
These meetings are easy to see as a “nice-to-have” rather than critical, but they are actually one of the most important things you can do to further your career. Do not skip them.
If your manager asks to skip a meeting, propose rescheduling instead of canceling. If it happens consistently, reach out and suggest finding a better time for these meetings to happen.
3. Come prepared with a notepad that make it all flow effortlessly
The best 1:1 meetings have structure and intention.
Use a tool like the Ink+Volt Spiral 1:1 Pad to have the structure built in for you. This pad is powered by a proven meeting outline that will lead to productive, focused, and valuable meetings with your manager.
You’ll look smart and prepared, and your meetings will flow naturally and productively. There is no smarter investment you can make for under $20.
